The 2025 Water Walk will bring attention to the water held behind dams, where Nibi’s natural flow is interrupted. Walkers will stop at the Shand, Shades Mills, Parkhill, Wilkes and Dunnville Bridge dams to honour these waters.

The core walkers will begin their weeklong journey along the east side of the Grand River, walking hundreds of kilometres until they reach Lake Erie. They will sing and pray for the water, and care for her in the Anishinaabe ways taught by the first water walker, Josephine-baa Mandamin.

Community walkers are also welcome to follow the pail and eagle staff. Before arriving, you must read and agree to our Anishinaabe Protocols. Register for our virtual information session with Mary Anne Caibaiosai on September 8 at 7:00 p.m. to learn more and ask questions. Register by emailing grandriverwaterwalk@gmail.com.
