IGR was thrilled to participate again in the annual KW Multicultural Festival, held in Kitchener’s Victoria Park on June 20 and 21, 2026.
Our display this year recognized IGR’s 25th anniversary by advertising many of the activities and contributions of our members to the Region over the years; and we invited festival-goers to test their knowledge of religion-related history of the Region and across Canada in a fun quiz game with questions for kids and adults ranging from “name three religions” to
where and when was Canada’s first mosque built?
does the constitution actually protect freedom of religion?
which of these three things was said by the Buddha? and
which of these regions has one of the highest rates of reported hate crimes in Canada?
(An aside: It was kind of amazing how many people assumed Calgary or Toronto had the most reported hate crimes – the answer was Waterloo! – and how many attributed a saying from Jesus to the Buddha. I guess we still have lots of interfaith educating to do! )
The atmosphere of the festival was, as always, lively, fun, and friendly, and though our booth was situated in a far corner of the park, we enjoyed steady traffic from a wide variety of folks who were happy to chat, to play, and to share their insights and ideas.
Thank you to every member who was able to take part at the booth, and all those who participated in its planning, organization, and set up. Special thanks to August Adelman for preparing a display of photographs and headlines (with several resources kindly contributed by Sandy Milne) about IGR’s quarter-century of service, and Jeff Wilson for contributing the questions for our quiz that helped young and old alike learn some things they never knew before.
