Jewish & Islamic Mysticism. 30 May 2026, approx 12:30pm. At Temple Shalom. Prof. Meena Sharify-Funk (Wilfrid Laurier University) in dialogue with Bob Chodos (Temple Shalom). Religions are divided by belief, practice and custom, and yet they tend to have much more in common in their mystical dimensions. Join Professor Meena Sharify-Funk of Wilfrid Laurier University’s Religion and Culture Department for an exploration of Sufism — the Islamic mystical tradition — and how it relates to its counterpart within Judaism.

Meena has written several books on Sufism and it has been an ongoing focus of her research and teaching. She will be speaking as part of Temple Shalom’s spring Lifelong Learning series on Saturday, May 30, following Shabbat services (approximately 12:30 p.m.). Her presentation will take the form of a dialogue with Bob Chodos of Temple Shalom, who has been a guest lecturer focusing on the Jewish mystical tradition in Meena’s courses on mysticism across religions.
