I often find myself thinking in song lyrics. This is one in a series of short articles about some songs and a few of the thoughts that they prompt in me. None of these songs were written for a faith-based setting, but all of them have some elements that relate to faith, philosophy, or world view.
All of My Life (Phil Collins)
This song speaks to a sense of inadequacy that strikes so many of us so often. We look for something that completes us, and wonder what more we could do, or should have done. It speaks to the uncertainty of life, or finding one’s place in a community, and of building relationships both with others and with a higher power.
The music feels sad, and starts with the line, “All of my life I’ve been searching,” a thought and feeling that so many can relate to.
